Event Notes

× Living on the Six Nations reserve in Ontario, Beck (Dakota Ray Hebert) is forced to change her lifestyle after falling into a diabetic coma and being visited by the spirit of Indigenous running legend Tom Longboat (Asivak Koostachin), who becomes her wise-cracking new life coach and personal trainer. But to fully rehabilitate, Beck must also face her mother’s death, which in turn allows her to reconnect with her heritage. Equal parts funny and touching, this moving film perfectly captures grief, family, and triumph. Run Woman Run took home top prize at the 2021 American Indian Film Festival, as well as the Audience Choice Award at the 2021 ImagineNative Festival.

“[Run Woman Run] succeeds on the strength of [Dakota Ray Hebert]. It’s easy to see why [Hebert] and Hopkins were honoured at the 2021 American Indian Film Festival, and why Run Woman Run took home the audience choice award at Toronto’s ImagineNative festival the same year. It’s a story that goes the distance.” - Chris Knight, National Post
