Rivercity Players presents Noel Coward’s light comedy Blithe Spirit at the Rivercity Stage, 1080 Hemlock St. March 6-9 and March 13-16 at 7:30 p.m. and March 10 and 17 at 2 p.m.
When novelist Charles Condomine arranges a séance with Madame Arcati, a local eccentric and medium, as part of research for an upcoming book, he unleashes forces he had not counted on, namely the ghost of his first wife Elvira, who is visible only to him. Charles eventually convinces his current wife, Ruth, of Elvira’s presence and Ruth and Charles set about trying to get rid of the unwanted spirit. Meanwhile, Elvira plots to get rid of Ruth so she and Charles can be reunited.
This play was a hit when it debuted in wartime London and has undergone numerous London and Broadway revivals. It was also made into a film in 1945.
